I believe that no matter who you are and what your story is, that your life makes up a pattern of these three scenarios and they ebb and flow and move us through life. We each have a path, a destination or a journey, a personal legend, or a purpose and it is sometimes traveled with grace and other times, it is traveled with rocks in your shoes. Children globally have been warned about the monster in the closet, Loch Ness Monster, and Creature from the Black Lagoon. But children, I am here to tell you that there is a new creature in town. This creature I speak of is not a man beast with a savage heart, is not lurking in the bedrooms of unsuspecting youth, nor is it a Plesiosauria. In fact, to date, the creature I speak of has not been misrepresented in a Hollywood feature film. However, it is to be known and its reach is not to be underestimated. Read on to hear what aspects of the creature Pterois (a.k.a. the lionfish), are meant to invoke unease among children and adults alike...
As I see it, alignment is the most important part of yoga, as well as any other type of body movement. This is not because yoga or Pilates looks prettiest when the practitioner is in perfect alignment (although they do), this is not because your muscles form in proper proportion when you practice good alignment (although they do), and this is not because this is how the ancient yogis, yoginis, and Joseph Pilates intended us to practice (although it is). The importance, as I see it, is that when you practice in proper alignment, you are preparing your body for an overall healing that you may not even see as being possible.
[...]I urge you to see if the world around you is not in alignment with your wishes. If you find that it is not, look first to the alignment within you. Begin there and prepare to be wowed as what changes within you also changes what is around you. The world needs more masters, even those with crooked spines.
This is an article I wrote for Stephanie Kafonek Pilates & Therapeutic Yoga. It is my personal story about the world around us being a reflection of the world within us. As our health improves, so too does the health of the planet.
Have you ever had the experience where something came together with such flow and ease that you asked yourself, "Why do I ever push/pull/force anything to happen? When the best things always seem to come together with ease?" My collaboration with Bright Futures Academy is one of the favorite experiences of my life－ and it sort of, "just happened."
Your brain rebuilds itself in one year, your DNA renews itself every two months, the lining in your stomach rebuilds itself in five days, your liver rebuilds itself in six weeks, your skin rebuilds itself in one year, your body builds a whole new skeleton in three months, and your blood rebuilds itself in four months. Every cell in your body dies and is replaced by new cells; 98% of your body rebuilds itself in less than a year... and so does mine. (Click the title for the full writing.)
A time when I am triggered by this state, is when I go to the beach. Close your eyes again and picture me (Brennan) excitedly heading to the coast for some swimming, sun, and relaxation. The weather is perfect, the Mara Hoffman bathing suit is fitting just right (watch out fellas!), and I have my favorite worn-in towel under my arm. As I spread my towel out and lay my body over the warm sand, I squint to look out at the soothing view and BOOM... (Click the title for the full writing.)
Perhaps the best way to reach them is by explaining, with love, that their non-reusable water bottle could sit in the ocean for 450 years before it degrades, instead of making a deeper divide between environmentalist and right-wing-devil-child. Perhaps right-wing-devil-child would be more perceptive to left-wing-good-for-nothing-vagabond if they came from a place of nonduality and focused on their commonalities, like sharing resources. While the majority of gals in their twenties (I am beginning this entry in this way mainly so I can emphasize that I am in my twenties, something I will only be able to do for 10 more months and twenty-four days, four hours, and twenty-seven minutes), may be out at the bars, or curled up at home with their partners and their newborn, or perhaps they would be likely to be in attendance at a summer barbecue, I, on the other hand, have spent my Saturday evenings for the past three and a half months educating the public about some of our most precious endangered species, sea turtles. Now may be a good time to tell you that my passions lie with dancing hip hop, outdoor exploration, and animals. If you have no concern for living creatures on planet Earth other than humans, SPOILER ALERT: you will not relate to my writings (at first, anyway). (Click the title for the full writing.)
Because every human being out there with an ego (for instance, every human out there, except maybe Jimmy Fallon and Eckardt Tolle) and a smartphone can start an online business, blog, or can become a "celebrity on Vine", there is ENDLESS information out there on the omnipresent Internet. This reality is what has stopped me from writing my first blog post so many times. (Click the title for the full writing.)
